There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
