Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features a number of comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
